The Best Pizza on Hilton Head Island
If you’re reading this, you want to cut right to the chase and get down to the business of the best pizza Hilton Head Island has to offer. If this is true, then you are in the right spot! You’re also lucky, since pizza is my absolute favorite food and I’ve lived here for over 20 years! I know first hand the ins and outs of where to go for the absolute best pizza on Hilton Head. Before we dive in, I want to let you know I am not a pizza snob and have definitely had my fair share of terrible pizza. However, I am able to appreciate the finer points of good dough, great sauce, special cheeses….and if the establishment cheaped out on the cheese!

When I sat down to make this list I thought it would be a breeze. I know basically every pizza place around and have had slices from the best of them. However, this list was a little tougher to put together, because as the title says, this is “the best” pizza on Hilton Head and when I began to think about it, the competition to be on my list was fierce. This list is not in order of best to greatest, they are all top choices and you can’t go wrong with any one of them. So, with deep thoughts and lots of considerations…here are the best pizza places you will find on Hiton Head in 2020.
Giuseppi’s Pizza & Pasta
Being in business for over 33 years is no easy feat, especially in a fickle town like Hilton Head, so you know they are doing something right and that something is their dough. Along with my love of pizza, I love bread just as much, so I can appreciate when a restaurant makes their dough fresh. If you grew up hanging out at the neighborhood pizzeria, then Giuseppi’s is for you. They have that ‘old-school feel’ and that’s exactly how their pizza is, just like back home. Scratch made sauce and a special cheese blend all add up to a truly authentic pizza. Make sure to try their cauliflower crust pizza, it’s amazing! Giuseppi’s is an Island institution and is located smack in the middle of Hilton Head near Shelter Cove, so you can have great pizza and catch the fireworks during the summer too. At last count, I think they had over 16 beers on tap and an extensive bottle and wine list.
“Our Favorite Item: Besides amazing pizza, Giuseppi’s also makes a pizza where the crust is made from cauliflower, so if gluten free is your thing, don’t miss this!”

TJ’s Take and Bake Pizza
Dine-in AND Carry Out! I wanted to get that out quickly so you wouldn’t scroll past thinking this fantastic pizza was only bake-at-home pie. Located on Main Street, TJ’s offers a large menu of original pizzas all made fresh from a secret recipe for their dough. You can buy an uncooked pie and bake it later or they also offer it fully baked and ready to go. If you’re serious about getting a great pie, then TJ’s will not disappoint. I think one of the reasons TJ’s pizza is so good is that the sauce is outstanding. I know it’s made fresh each day and that they make their dough in a unique way, allowing it to slow rise several hours before it’s hand tossed to perfection. You won’t feel cheated on the toppings either, as they definitely are generous with their portions. To me, that’s an important trait (and it’s even kept some restaurants off this list). TJ’s offers a great patio for outdoor dining and serves wine and beer. If you’re there, make sure to get one of their famous Cannolis for dessert.
“Our Favorite Item: It would be hard to pick just one item, but it would have to be Dan’s Garlic Lovers pizza, its New York style on an ultra thin crust.”

Il Carpaccio Ristorante
If you like wood fired pizza, then this is the place for you! If I think back, I probably have eaten more pizza from Il Carpaccio than any other pizza place on Hilton Head, and I get the same pizza all the time, their outstanding Margherita Pizza. I’m a thin crust guy and I absolutely love the unique taste a wood fired pizza has, it’s just amazing! I don’t think I ever had a bad pizza here. Besides great pizza, Il Carpaccio is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner and is more than just a pizza place. They have a great menu of pasta, chicken, veal and fish dishes and daily specials. If you’re looking for a nice spot for a date, you won’t be disappointed. Located on the North End of the Island, they’re easy to get to from just about everywhere. “Our Favorite Item: If you can’t decide what to order, try the Delizia pie. Its tomato sauce, mozzarella, sausage, black olives and parmesan cheese.”

Mangiamo
If there is a second most consumed pizza on the list, Mangiamo would probably be it. When I worked on the Island, one of my co-workers and I would go to lunch here more than once a week. As I said above, I eat lots of pizza, but I really appreciate when I find a good pie and that’s what you get here. I don’t know too much about their inner workings, but I do know I love their pizza. It’s just the right combination of crust thickness, a slightly sweet sauce and a good cheese mixture. Mangiamo’s has that neighborhood feel and is the perfect place to watch the Ohio State game. Offering a full menu of traditional Italian restaurant fare, great salads and a great beer selection, you can enjoy eating there or taking it home. “Our Favorite Item: When in doubt, go with the bacon cheeseburger pizza! Might sound strange if you want Italian, but trust us, its awesome.”

New York City Pizza
As the name suggests, that’s the style of pizza here. Lately, we’ve been eating a lot of pizza from these guys. There are several pizza places very close together and NYC is still one of our top choices. I am extremely picky when it comes to which foods I spend money on, and let’s face it, even pizza is pricey today! I hate feeling ripped off or like I wasted my money. So, I really appreciate the large slice sizes from New York City Pizza. The pizza is always good, I love the crust, but the sauce is magical. I did say this list is not in any particular order of greatness, but if the volume of consumption was the deciding factor, NYC Pizza might win as it’s been a near-weekly treat for us over the last year or so. Besides great pizza by the slice, NYC Pizza also has a decent menu of what you would expect from a solid Italian pizzeria….and I can definitely recommend their meatball parmigiana sub! “Our Favorite Item: If pizza is your thing, then NYC’s regular cheese pie will be a delight!”

Pizza is one of those universal foods – everybody loves a good slice! The problem with pizza is that there is so much availability and competition….from the local pizzerias and restaurants to the big chains to the frozen and gourmet offerings at the supermarkets. Heck, most gas stations around here have that cardboard stuff from Fox’s Pizza! However, if you live here in Hilton Head or are on vacation and you can’t risk eating pizza that’s not top notch, then any one of the choices on our list of top pizza for 2020 will bring a smile to your face….and maybe a little sauce too! Enjoy!
